  Liga Pokal Regulation
Since 1997, at the beginning of a new season the German Champion, the four next best teams of the last Bundesliga season-end table and the winner of the DFB Trophy compete for the DFB League Trophy, a combination of the Fuji and the Super Cup.
If the German Champion is also the holder of the DFB Trophy, the sixth-placed team of the season-end table of the Bundesliga is entitled to participate.
The tournament, which usually lasts for one week, is hosted by five cities.
The five matches are played according to the knockout system.
Up to the semi-final cities are chosen where no professional soccer clubs are at home.
The German Champion and the winner of the DFB trophy are seeded for the semi-final and can only meet in the final.
If the German Champion is also holder of the DFB Trophy, the vice champion is seeded for the other semi-final.
The winners of the other two meetings advance to the semi-final.
A draw after 90 minutes will immediately be followed by a penalty shoot-out, also in the final. In the DFB-League Trophy, there is no extra time or Golden Goal.

  The Trophy
Hexagon with rock crystals The DFB League Trophy is designed as a hexagon and, seen through the eyes of an artist, represents part of a football.
Six rock crystals symbolize the six teams competing in the tournament.
The rock crystals originate from Brazil. Krystallos is Greek and means ice.
The trophy was manufactured by Tom Munsteiner in Stipshausen located in the Hunsrück.
The trophy had already been awarded earlier in the DFB Supercup where the German Champion and the DFB Cup winner had met.
