TEAM RECORDS

Overall topscorer:
Paolo Rossi and Roberto Baggio, 9 goals.
Most appearances:

Hosted the World Cup:
1934 and 1990

No world cup for Juventus midfielder Gianluca Pessotto who was onjured in the friendly match against England.

No World cup for the 35 years old Roberto Baggio: although he was claimed as a decisive player by italian "Tifosi", Coach Trapattoni decided to leave him at home.

No world cup for Parma forward Marco Di Vaio, one of the best scorers of the season.

Italy National Team has a strong defence, probably the best defence of all participating teams.
The offensive play is based on the performances of the three superstars of the clubs who dominated the season. Vieri and Del Piero could score a lot thanks to the assist man of Roma Francesco Totti.

The problems regardless the midfielder's line suggest us to say that Italy is not so strong as France and Argentina, but could win the title, if Totti and Del Piero will be at the top of their condition.

In the last edition of World Cup of Football, Italy stopped the run to the dream in quarter final. Opposed to France, Italy of Coach Cesare Maldini showed a great defensive organisation, but was eliminated after some useless extratime, in the final penalty series.

In the USA, in 1994, Italy was managed by Arrigo Sacchi. Italy, with an unusual offensive style of play, thanks to his most talented player, Roberto Baggio, went into final against Brazil. Brazil won the final in the penalties series. It was Roberto Baggio to do the decisive mistake.

In Italy, in 1990, Italy was conducted to quarter finals by Azeglio Vicini, opposed to Argentina, Italy loss after the penalty series.
The team trained from Vicini was probably the most spectacular italian national team since the victory in 1982.

We can say the only way to eliminate Italy, is to italians to penalty's series, where they seems to be really unlucky.

Roberto Baggio
